Professional cosmetic procedures should be a relaxing experience, however, skin reactions after the procedure are not! Experts say that tampering with your own skin prior to visiting the esthetician, is responsible for the vast majority of procedure complications. Here is a list of 7 things that you should not do if you want to avoid inflamed skin after a facial procedure.
1. Don’t depilate 24 hours prior to the procedure
Waxing removes the top layer of skin cells like exfoliation. Cosmetic procedures immediately after will cause severe irritation to the skin.
2. Don’t touch face to harsh bristles
Mens stubble is unkind to sensitive facial skin, touching your skin to the stubble will cause redness and inflammation.
3. Don’t spend time in the sun the day before beauty session
Cosmetic procedures can greatly reduce the damage caused by sunlight. Your skin needs to “recharge” after a being in the sun. Otherwise, your skin may have an unexpected reaction to anti-aging and anti-acne ingredients used by your cosmetologist.
4. Don’t have Botox injections
If you have received Botox injections, defer your facial for at least 48 hours. The areas of the recent shots cannot be massaged to avoid migration of Botox serum. If the Botox does affect the site, it can take up to 12 weeks for the effects to subside.
5. Don’t deep cleanse at home
Squeezing pimples and blackheads before heading to the spa will cause severe inflammation in these areas, which again, will hamper your facial results. Go to a reputable spa, and leave the cleaning procedure to a professional esthetician.
6. Don’t get eyelash extensions
Never rub, use lotions or steam during the first 48 hours after you’ve got eyelash extensions. Products used during your facial may cause the eyelash extensions to come off, wasting all that time and money.
7. Don’t use exfoliating products
Ingredients like Retinol and glycolic acid, increase skin sensitivity. If you are not sure of the ingredients, please refrain from using them for a few days before the scheduled procedure.
